Hello! It’s time for me to upgrade my pc and I’m unsure of what I should choose. I’ve heard that 13th and 14th-gen i9 are similar in performance, but I’m unsure of which one I should buy. If there is a better option (like Ryzen) out there then I’m open for it as well.

I’m fine with buying a new motherboard etc for the new sockets.

Use: I will use it to play games and work with Blender and Unreal.

Specs: Currently a 3090, i7-8700K, 32 GB RAM, Win 11.

Thanks in advance!

Ps. I’m thinking of doing the upgrade during Black Friday.

I just upgraded from the same CPU as you, though I went for the 14700k.

IMO, if you’re like me (which appears to be the case), I do a new build every ~7 years so I would get the 14900k. The cost difference is peanuts over that period of time and you may as well get the latest for the socket (and it seems like there are some 14 gen only features).

Actually if its for Gaming Ryzen 7000 3D chips are a lot better now, much more performance at hardly any power usage, check the reviews.

I only stuck with Intel because I wanted to stick to DDR4.

I’d get 14th gen if you are a gamer. Unclear right now if Intel APO will be useful in the future, but it does add a lot of performance to the 2 games it currently supports. And it only works on 14th gen.

But then again, if you’re a gamer, why go for i9? I thought about it and simply couldn’t reconcile the cost v. Real use and instead picked a 14700k.same reason I picked a z690 board instead of 790.

if 14th gen isnt a crazy markup over 13th id get it just for intel apo, apparently boosts fps like crazy in certain games but it is still to be implemented in many games, ik its in r6 siege if it matters
