Just a heads up, I’m not an apple user, it never clicked with me but this might be the best spot to get an answer for my specific use case. What I do like was their old 3.5 mm jack earphones, but the playback controls never worked right on my android phone, probably because of the wiring layout or some DRM screwery. I’ve been looking to buy a second pair of them as my primary one has been confiscated by my better half, and I saw that they put out a USB-C version of those.
If any one has those headphones, can you test them out on an android device, or if you are sure can comment if the volume and playback controls work outside Apple’s devices or are they locked to just their devices? I didn’t see that info in any reviews and would know that bit of info before buying them blind.
Hi again!
Just tested the USB-C Earpods on my Galaxy S7, and can confirm they do everything you want!
Pressing the buttons turns the volume up, down, and pressing the centre plays/pauses.
As I said in my previous post, be warned that since it’s usb-c, not all devices may support it (e.g. I put the same earpods in my OLED switch and it didn’t even detect them).
I’ve now tested them in the following:
Steam Deck - Works perfectly Galaxy S7 - Works perfectly OLED Switch - Does not work at all Macbook pro - Works perfectly iPhone 15 pro max - Works perfectly
If you have any other questions let me know!
Thank you for the detailed testing, that helped!
Commenting so I don’t forget - I have the usb-c EarPods, and have a Galaxy s7, so will test in a bit once the 5 month old in my arms falls asleep and I charge the dev device.
I tried the EarPods in my oled switch and it didn’t work, so I’m curious too
They will be the same.
It’s not wiring or DRM. It’s signals. They speak different languages, in a way.
You can look at reviews for second gen AirPods Pro. They’re practically the same with port change and a slight change inside that only affects compatibility with the vr headset that’s not even out. I got the usbc ones but don’t have an android to test sorry
This person is asking about wired EarPods not wireless AirPods
Ah right thanks. Forgot they made a usbc wired headphones.
