I was just reading up on the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite CPU. This thing is faster than Apple M2 Pro while using ~30% less power (23W i think).
Reason for this post is…
Who here would like an ARM Framework laptop to rival Apple’s? Rumours are, the big laptop players are already preparing.
I know the M3 is on the way, but that’s in H1 2024.
I’d love it, but the problem is not only in the hardware availability, but software.
I’m sure there are Linux builds that support ARM, but Windows’ implementation (at least for the current time) is exceedingly poor. I think it’s likely that we’ll have to wait for Microsoft to catch up to the ARMs race before Framework will invest the resources necessary to make that happen.
Pun intended 😜I assume that once the market for ARM has matured (if it does), FW will offer a mainboard that is competitive and functional, just like they did with AMD. That will be perfect cause I can upgrade then (Batch 8 FTW)! On the software side, ARM has a long way to go, but I think MS is going to pivot to supporting ARM better since M-series is currently running laps around intel at least.
i am waiting for snapdragon x elite framework laptop
:) price is the only factor here. :| m3 is extremely costly. And snapdragon might be cheaper than that. @_@ unified memory of apple is extremely costly 🥲 … :/ if u guys are searching for a 25 to 30 watt laptop with high battery life and low power consumption and a budget friendly option then i have some options for u.
Apple is costly.(but low powered high battery life also slim)
Here are some options- 1.strix point processor with under 45 watt tdp modle. (It has 12 cores and 16 gpu cores) (good for gaming) (1660 to 1660 super like gaming performance at 60 to 80 watt) 2.snapdragon x elite (get the 45 watt to 50 watt modle) (based on the given performance demonstration. The gpu is as powerful as a gtx 1660 to 1660 super) (but after emulation it performs like a 1650) like in control: 50 fps to 60 fps and baldur’s gate 3: 30 to 45 fps.
