Stop on by, post what’s on your mind. What’s happening in our city?
Want to be a moderator? Let me know!
I can help mod if you want. Also, can we stop calling it “The Lou”? Nobody I know calls it that. But maybe I just don’t know the right people.
Well, I added “The Lou” for two reasons - 1) Some other person had started up a /c/saintlouis community (and let it dwindle) and I wanted this one to visibly stand out from that one in search results, and 2) I also started /c/missouri and named it “Missouri | The Show-Me State”, so I wanted a nick name to go along with this one as well. I haven’t heard anyone call it “St. Louie” in a hot minute, so I went with a newer one.

What do you think of using “Gateway to the West”? That’s probably the most tried and true city nickname I know of.
Yeah, " gateway to the west " is good. Thanks!
Curious: why create this when there’s /c/stl already? That one’s only 4 days old, should probably give it time to grow.
On the other hand, I guess we’ll see who promotes more. I’ll sub to both until there’s one I can think of as the “winner”
My main motivation (other than having already created this and the MO subs over at lemmy.ml and was just copying them here) was that the guy who created it has proclaimed multiple times that he only moved to STL a few years ago, and I don’t see why that qualifies him to run our community. I was born and raised here.
He also spelled it out “Saint Louis” in the title, and appears to use his real picture as his profile pic. I mean seriously, who does either of those things? (Joking, but kind of not?)
Also I intend on being more active than posting a thread like “Promote your favorite restaurant” every few days.
he only moved to STL a few years ago
Are you saying that they can’t be involved and be a leader in the community just because they weren’t “born and raised here”? I moved here just a few years ago. Should I just go ahead and unsubscribe since I’m an “outsider”? This is the kind of thinking and rhetoric that will hold the region back.
You do what you will, don’t let me stop you. I never called anyone an outsider, but I also wouldn’t have the hubris to start an online community on a growing social platform about a city I recently moved to, then tell people repeatedly how I don’t know anything about the city and otherwise contribute very little to that sub.
