Here we are 50 years later still heavily dependent on oil and gas extraction from increasingly depleted sources. We CAN rely on other sources of energy and make them work - it’s the big oil and gas companies that are standing in everyone’s way unable to look or care beyond their own greed.
That is definitely a huge factor and should have been mentioned at the very start. Greed is always the motivational factor in what humans do to each other. Munitions dealers get fat and rich off of war so have a vested interest in keeping it going.
