Am I the only idiot who keeps doing this?

  • Looking at a random image in Firefox
  • Click the hamburger menu > Zoom [+] a few times
  • Click off the menu
  • Zoom level snaps back to 100%

Of course, the problem is that when I “click off the menu”, I’m clicking on the image, because it fills most of the screen. If I do the exact same thing in Chrome, the zoom level does not change.

If “revert zoom on click” is considered a sensible design choice, then clicking again ought to revert to the zoom level I just chose.

Keyboard shortcuts are not relevant, because I’m referring to the mouse-only zoom interface.

I think you are actually clicking the magnifying glass “-” which unzooms it. Try clicking hamburger icon again to retain zoom level

Interesting. This only seems to happen if the image’s original size is bigger than the viewport (with small images it’s working as expected)

I miss the old mouse gestures addon that would let you do a gesture over an image to zoom in or out… It was a simpler solution to a problem that wouldn’t have existed if Firefox hadn’t deprecated old add-ons.

For mine, I had it set up to do diagonal swipes, down-right for zoom in, up-left to zoom out, down-left to reset. Just hold right click and complete the gesture. It worked individually for any image and also for whole pages. The addon was discontinued after firefox moved to the new format.
