Not a huge gamer but I dabble. Use a lot of Adobe products , and started getting into video editing. I have a 2080ti that’s been just a beast over the past two years. I have the lga2066 socket 7800x , and it’s been great but looking to upgrade to something a little faster , any suggestions on a lga2066 intel proc for my asus x299-xe mobo ? I am maxed out with a Gskill DDR4 4000mhz 128gb kit (8 sticks)
Thanks in advance yall.
Just move to the mainstream LGA 1700 platform, the. core counts even on mainstream chips are absurd these days, and even the i5-13600K destroys anything on LGA 2066.
shouldn’t you be using CUDA?
You can get boards that still use DDR4 if you want to save money.
7980xe’s are dirt cheap nowadays just get 1 of those.
However, be careful about your VRM if it is those first batch of X299 boards. The first batch of those boards has underpowered VRM’s due to the board partners severely underestimating the powerdraw of the 18 cores, and they have a tendency to overheat.
If your board is one of those, you may want to top out with something less like a 7940X. Make sure to have adequate airflow.
if i go for a delidded version then that point is moot?
how do i determine if i have one of those boards ? i can’t find anything with an affected matrix of serial no’s…
You could buy a used 7980XE/10980XE and easily 2X your CPU performance for decently cheap (~$500). Or upgrade like other folks are saying but it’d cost more.
There’s very little difference between the 7980xe, 9980xe, and 10980xe, so buy one of those, whichever is cheapest, overclock it as much as possible, and ride that until the next real Intel mainstream generation; Lga1700 is on its last legs, and the 14th generation is a stopgap.
I was in a similar position to you, rocking a 7940x that I bought for $290 CAD in 2021. I upgraded to a 14700k platform. While it is better for gaming, I don’t notice a huge difference in productivity and everyday use. Kinda wish I’d kept my money for a while longer.
I just upgraded from the exact same processor to a 13700k. Best decision I’ve ever made.
Yes i would go for an i5-13600K
perfect guys thanks a lot for the help. gonna dive in now. cheers 🍻
