I listened to this Q&A earlier today – it’s a great listen. I know Will was excited about a lot of the answers to his basketball questions (i.e. “how do you approach player development”, “can you improve shooting”, “how do you implement a 0.5 offense without good shooters”), but I was personally most happy about he answered difficult questions. At one point Will asks “have you spoken to Masai and Bobby in terms of the future of this team player-wise?” (basically asking if the Raptors are going to rebuild), and his answer was fantastic – “I have spoken to Masai and Bobby about this, and we’re working together on a direction together. I can’t say more however, because the details need to remain in-house”.
Literally all the coach needs to say. Remains honest, but also professional when there is something he can’t divulge. Love it
His passion for the game is obvious and his temperament seems like the ideal complement to Masai. I’m really looking forward to who he brings on as his assistants as that will tell us a great deal about how well-regarded he is around the league and what his priorities are.
