That’s good, because it’s a delicate and complex situation.
For decades, almost any criticism of Israel was labelled as antisemitism. The media and government is finally starting to realize that Netenyahu is an extremely clever genocidal maniac who has leant on that belief as long as he’s been in authority.
So we have Israel carrying out a policy of systematic genocide, and doing everything they can to conflate Judaism with Israel. Meanwhile, you have Hamas doing almost exactly the same thing on the other side of the battle - claiming to speak for all Palestinians while waging a war of genocide against Israel (although not nearly as systematic or methodical as Israel).
Both of these groups have done everything they can to tie their religious identity to their geopolitical existence: Hamas <==> Palestine, Jews <==> Israel. In reality, there are probably a lot more citizens on the ground on other side of the conflict who just want to get up, go to work, raise their families, and live their lives without worrying about being shot, bombed, or invaded.
So if Trudeau is trying to avoid stepping in the “We’re with Israel!” or “We’re with Palestine” camp, good for him.
