Wondering what people’s suggestions would be should I get the current gen i7 or last gen i9?
Primarly use my pc for gaming a bit of video editing + work but when I upgrade my pc again in hopefully 5+ years I put the CPU, motherboard and memory into my home server that I use for my lab.
i9 is £460 i7 is £420
Not a huge difference in price. Get the 13900k. Anything more than £100 then get the 14700k.
14700K is the way to go according to one source (TechRadar)
Get the microcenter 14900k bundle, totally worth the price for the cpu, motherboard, and ram
The 14700K is £399.95 in the UK: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/intel-core-i7-14700k-raptor-lake-s-socket-lga1700-processor-retail-pro-int-00800.html
If you’re going to get a 13900k, get a 14900k, They are only $50 more. Just make sure you get a z790 mainboard.
In the UK they’re all at least £100 more expensive ($125 ish)
I have a 13900k and there really few and far between workloads that can use the sustained all 40 threads to its maximum. I do high performance computing and encoding besides gaming. I get 100% usage with some very specific R code, Python only goes above 1 core for very short durations and handbrake uses ~60% of the cpu for software x265. Also you’ll need faster ram to get the most of it and cooling it is a harder as well. I’d go with the 14700k, save the difference and place it towards the gpu
32 threads
Longer term the 13900k will be better. the 14th gen is a joke for the most part in that its basically the same cpu’s with a higher base clock.
Go for i9 13900K
If you plan to keep it for 5 years or more, better go with the 14th Gen. The difference in pricing is not that huge.
If I’m gonna keep the same pc for 5 years, I’d go for 14700k or 14900k instead and a z790 refresh motherboard. I want a board with wifi 7 10gb lan port and gen 5 ssd (this one not sure as it cuts the bandwidth for gpus)
Other option is amd 7950x3d or 7900x with x670 motherboard
with such a low price difference I’d be seriously considering it and comparing them more thoroughly, however where I live the 13900K is still about 50% more expensive than the 14700K and just a couple of EUR cheaper than the 14900K
You really can’t go wrong with either one, just undervolt, and it will cut down on power usage without sacrificing performance.
13900k is a beast. Runs everything I throw at it from games to intense audio/video sessions.
I would probably have to ask coming from White processor to be honest… I went from 13 700 KF to 14 900 KF and got a 25% increase
That said the 14 700 K does come with a nice improvement with the additional cores. Build experience not YouTube but that’s just my opinion By the way, Z790 aero g is literally $100 off right now and I just paid I believe 299 you can steal it right now. It’s a great board. Definitely recommend the Z790 chips it even if you don’t know what you’re doing the optimization of the ram in CPU you don’t have to know anything and it will do a decent job of maxing that thing out for you. Just don’t go cheat on your cooling system.
Are usually LT 728, 360 mm. And use MX6 thermal paste. Along with the Anti building frame. If you haven’t heard of that, it definitely makes a difference only about 8°C difference which is huge. Anyway, sorry I talk a little . Lol.
to make it sound easy lets say that APO is dlss for intel, … well kinda anyways, that means 14th gen will do some things better? i guess??? thing is they didnt gave us APO for 13k even tho some of USSS got their 13th like 2 months ago, sad board with poor decisions (i copy that fraise from a youtuber)
Note: im not trying to dirt here, im 32 years old and i use intel from at least when i was 10 years old boy, and will do so in the future for my kids too etc etc, but we need some respect, donot let your old users down, its good to sell a 14th cpu, but im already customer to 13 gens, think for a moment .
