If you try to make non-pandering memes they get down voted or taken down by the mods. Trust me, I’ve tried.
I was curious about that so I checked my local modlog (and the cached copies on another instance)…
The only 2 posts I can find that have been removed, but not since restored:
There are probably more, but on communities not synced with the instance I’m on.
I’m not personally offended by those, but I can see a mod removing the first one for being insensitive to some people.
The second one, I even find funny, but [email protected] does not allow adult content. With that info, the removal suddenly makes more sense.
Other removed stuff from different modlogs on servers I don’t have an admin account on…:
Removed Post Miscarriage jokes never get old
(Haven’t seen it, but seems a sketchy subject)
Removed Comment Since I’m getting downvoted right now I can punch up: fuck you dann! Am I doing it right? lmao by balderdash
(downvotes mean you can insult people now? kinda classy)
Removed Comment It’s starting to sound echoy in here. You can joke about kids being shot up in American schools but you can’t joke about abortion, fat people, etc., because then it seems too mean spirited. by balderdash
(well yea that’s just… bigotry?)
To be fair, that’s pretty tame compared to the other shit I wade through, but it’s not necessarily unreasonable removals…
I don’t think you deserve hate for those either, but the removed stuff I’ve seen isn’t a big surprise. I’m sure you even have more normal comments that are still up too.
Still, there’s a bit of a stretch between “non-pandering” and those.
Peace.
I think the moderation on Lemmy is flawed in a number of ways. The most obvious being the rules are unclear. I have a disposition to want to joke about anything and everything but I’m not sure where Lemmy draws the line. (For instance, I didn’t realize even mentioning masturbation counted as “NSFW content”. It’s not like the women in the comic are naked.) A related problem is that certain topics are off-limits. The mods decide which posts break the rules but they seem inconsistent. (For example, why can I make a meme about American school shootings but I can’t post about miscarriages? Seems completely arbitrary.)
Put these two points together and my view about pander comes into focus. It’s not clear what breaks the rules and the mods are likely judging based on their own biases. (My meme making fun of the LGBTQ+ acronym being too long was a very light-hearted joke. But no jokes about queer culture are allowed, apparently.) On the other hand, I’m sure I can make a meme saying we should go out with guillotines and kill the 1% and that would stay up no problem. Idk, just seems a little echo-chambery in here sometimes.
Yea and I didn’t mean my previous comment as an attack but merely as an outsider perspective.
The comic isn’t nsfw to me, but it also isn’t PG, which [email protected] strives to be as per their sidebar:
Adult content is not allowed. This community aims to be fun for people of all ages.
The lgbt acronym joke isn’t necessarily that bad, but it’s also often used as a dogwhistle.
Mods and admins are volunteers and imperfect beings with their own biases. (Source: my own self awareness)
The inconsistent moderation is both a feature and a flaw depending on your viewpoint.
A good example of that… (elsewhere in thread) is complaining about communism while on lemmy.ml, which seems exhausting to me.
That is to say, what gets removed on lemmy.ml could be vastly different than on another instance.
To me that’s both a good thing (non centralization of curation/censorship) and a bad thing (inconsistent experience for the user).
Lemmy is whatever we make it, except for the communism posts that love communism until they realize workers need representation. I half believe those are Chinese bots or high school kids who are stupid enough to believe the Chinese bots.
Right. Magically, everyone on the Internet has become infatuated with communism out of thin air over the last few years. Must just be my paranoia to surggest influence from a hostile government.
How do you account for the vast amount of anti-CPC Communists, Socialists, and Anarchists, if this “influence from a hostile government” is so effective? Might it be simpler to see that Capitalism’s increasing failure has driven more people in developed countries towards radicalization, especially as generations are further removed from the Red Scare?
Homie did you repress COVID? Anyone that wasn’t removed about wearing a mask was discussing why this system isn’t working for them. Sorry you weren’t invited to the discussion.
This took me 5 seconds of research. If were being passive aggressive here ive gotta say. are you sure you didn’t get dropped on the head as a baby or eat copious amounts of lead
Haha naw I just kind wanted some one to post this information.
Honestly I still don’t think there’s much to gain from influencing lemmy users. But I know it’s a game of attrition you have to do it everywhere on as many social networks as possible to cast the widest net.
I don’t believe there are any states trying to influence. Lemmy although you just can’t be certain these days. I do think it’s possible lemmys the perfect breeding ground for propoganda especially considering a good chunk say 40% of lemmy are tankies tankies is a term to decribe someone whom holds marxist/stalinist/Communist politcal views and are very suspectible to propoganda.

Uh, I don’t think many commies think of themselves as future millionaires? Or at least in the conventional sense

You may wanna try a different instance if all that is getting to you
Or just block some communities
Got new for you champ China doesn’t gaf about communism… and they sure as fuck don’t care enough to deploy bots on lemmy… The fediverse maybe…
