Now that Google is officially throttling Youtube and other apps, remember that this company needs you on chrome so that they can track you. Youtube is throttling w/ this little guy (in the polymer script)
e.appendChild(h);h.classList.add(“html5-main-video”);setTimeout(function(){e.classList.add(“ad-interrupting”)},200); setTimeout(function(){c();a.resolve(1)},5E3);
If you can take my word for it, this is a 5 second timer on any browser that isn’t Chrome. For no particular reason other than fuck you, use chrome
Consider Firefox w/ a User-Agent Changing Extension. At the bare minimum, use a password vault and 2FA on CS so you don’t run the risk of large data “breaches” exposing your Computershare credentials.
Follow these steps to have the faster and safer option.
Top Right 3 Bars -> Settings -> Privacy -> Strict
And just below that, make sure you check “Always”
Scroll down a bit more, uncheck saving passwords, and click into Saved Logins… and remove the logins there.
Just a bit further down, uncheck both of these if they are checked
Lastly, HTTPS-Only Mode will help prevent weird certificates or sketchy unencrypted sites
If you’ve read this far, I personally use uBlock, Dark Reader, Bypass Paywalls Clean, FoxScroller, a User-agent Switcher/Manager, and MetaMask. I’m sure the community has plenty of other fun extensions, especially those that Google try to code around such as uBlock.
firefox gang rise up
Been using Chrome since summer 2008. Made the complete switch to Firefox, Firefox Focus and Librewolf last month for my household. Couldn’t be more satisfied
At the time of writing this the code is in “/jsbin/desktop_polymer_enable_wil_icons.vflset/desktop_polymer_enable_wil_icons.js” You can take a look for yourself and it is still there.
However if people take notice, I imagine they will need to…“refactor” the code.
I have archived the file for when they inevitably hide this line of code in a different file:
Dashlane + 2FA + Firefox + no browser cookies
For YouTube I just use grayjay.app
Also if you’re looking for a good email provider, Hushmail is a privacy-oriented email that can encrypt emails for safekeeping. They are hosted in Canada, and they also allow you to create email aliases (fake emails) that you can use for specific purposes and messages to the aliases are sent to your normal inbox. These are great if you want to contact someone or sign up for something and don’t want to give out your actual email address.
I changed to hushmail when lavabit was shut down back in the day. I hear lavabit was brought back online after a while but I wasn’t going to wait around without a functional email address in the meantime.
Is there a cost ?
I’m interested in what they’re doing to Safari users. That uses Webkit and not Chrome/Blink or Gecko.
If you need a chrome like experience, Vivaldi for Android uses that engine and has a built-in adblocker to turn on in Settings.
For passwords, the KeePass system uses a file format that can be opened by different apps, I count 8 apps just on FDroid. There are apps for desktop OSs as well.
For youtube, try NewPipe, so far still working, has a download button built in.
For Firefox on Android, I use Fennec from Fdroid, has a lot more search engunes built in and FDroid will update it.
This is not code to inconvenience firefox and you know you’re being disingenuous about it. This is anti ad blocker. Not saying it’s good. But fucking stop lying about this targeting browsers that aren’t chrome.
If there are no adblocks that work on youtube chrome, you do have to wonder who they’re targeting here w/ these 2 lines.
Would this particular line ever fire on a Chrome browser? No.
There are ad blocks that work on Chrome and others have reported this issue on chromium based browsers already. But keep going with the rage bait with disinformation.
Doesn’t explain why a User-Agent changer completely fixes this problem for Firefox, even with an ad-blocker. “Chormium based” implies that it isn’t happening on Chrome. Do you have an example of a user experiencing this delay on Chrome?
Ad blockers are going to stoo working on Chrome soon, next June when Manifest 3 is in place.
