Obsidian-Syncthing user here. I agree with what someone else said about no feedback from syncthing that it is or is not done updating files. Beyond that though, it’s a great tool that handles all my notes well.

Yeah probably true. I’ve got some hopes for the work being done on running Mac apps on Linux, even tried getting an old version of preview working a while back, with absolutely zero success. The tool I was trying had incredibly limited support for graphical apps.

It’s odd because I feel like it gets mixed up, very fairly due to its name, with MacOS “QuickLook”, which is the actual file previewing tool, giving a quick peek into a file by hitting ‘space’ with the file selected. Preview is essentially an image editor, but it doubles, or maybe triples, as PDF viewer/editor and scanner importer. The names are kinda silly tbh.

I’m already running Linux. I’m looking for an application that can run on Linux that roughly matches the feature set of MacOS Preview for image and PDF viewing and basic editing.

The nix wiki actually contains a way to handle this. If you look up “NixOS configuration editors” it has a couple quick commands to make a folder in your user space and link it to the default location of your nix config. This allows you to edit your config without having to escalate privileges of your editor.

I use Sunshine/Moonlight, OBS, Discord screen share, all on Wayland and an AMD GPU. No issues, both on my old Arch install and now NixOS. Every now and then there’s some issues in the actual updates that get pushed to these things, but those aren’t usually specific to my system. For example just recently an update was pushed to the loopback module OBS uses for virtual camera, but the OBS update that utilized it hadn’t been pushed yet, so I got a crash.

Shows up in my Craigslist listings. Was very easy to search for. Could absolutely still be fake, but it’s not stuck in Craigslist limbo, it’s listed right there along side all the other “talent gig” listings.

Child of two public educators. I’m going to disagree to an extent. There are radical teachers. They push back against standards based education because they see how it pushes an agenda from the top, rather than cater needs to the local community and individual students. There’s a lot more of these teacher than you think, and they are honestly heroes. It is thankless, low paying, emotionally and physically draining work. Like I can understand the ways they kind of messed up raising me when I think about the hundreds, maybe thousands, of other kids lives they improved, and in some cases saved.

Little more context: Philly has kind of become the counter protest hub on the east coast for the military parade in DC. I recently posted a comment about this if you check my profile. Anyway, we are expecting huge numbers in the city. Our medic team is going to have a lot of work on their hands, and is incredibly short on supplies. Any help you can provide, or even just sharing the link among your affinity groups would be awesome. If you want any further verification of this information please dm me. I want to be careful not to dox myself or any of my local organizers that didn’t already agree to put their name on stuff.

Yeah fair, though I do know of a lot of affinity groups already planning to come up from DC. There’s even fairly easy transit options. But I do agree with spoiling his footage. If he wants to issue the order to suppress protestors at his parade with violence I just hope everyone on the ground in DC is ready for that.

Linux! I uninstalled windows almost 2 years ago to help me kick a bad gaming habit, and while I can appreciate the design of macOS and was a macOS user for YEARS before windows, I just can’t leave Linux now. Once I felt freedom it was impossible to convince myself to climb back into the ad filled box.

DO NOT GO PROTEST AT HIS PARADE! He wants the opportunity to paint the opposition as un-American by contrasting them against a parade full of US flags and lots of pomp and circumstance.

What to do instead? COME TO PHILLY! No Kings, 50501, and Indivisible are organizing a march/rally/protest THIS SATURDAY as a counter to his parade. Bring lots of US flags, bring your signs, bring yourselves. If you’re a vet, make that clear with your clothes, signs, flags etc. If you’re a healthcare worker please, PLEASE, show up if able and bring a first aid kit. We are expecting 80-120k people. The street medics will have their work cut out for them even if it stays totally peaceful. Should things be escalated in any way we will need the extra medical knowledge. Bring water, for yourself and to share if you’re able to carry the extra.

Mask, bring eye protection (safety glasses for blunt impact, lab goggles or similar should teargas get deployed), bring a respirator, cover tattoos. Have an exit and arrest plan in place. If you can, buy a cheap phone, DO NOT turn it on near your house, and DO NOT put a SIM card in it. Phones without SIMs can still call 911 and take photos/videos.

Oh I didn’t even open your profile! Love seeing someone who jumped on the PieFed instance!! I anticipate Blahaj and a few other instances eventually putting their federation with the melting pots to a community vote, or something like that.

@lemmy.blahaj.zone is sort of a general queer instance, but has a big population of trans femme folks already. Plus pretty much everyone on the instance “gets it”. Come check it out! We’ve got safe spaces and good memes. I would say blahaj.zone is a very women friendly instance. Not to say it will magically fix the Lemmy experience, but at the very least we have an admin that pulls zero punches when it comes to banning the jerks.

This is better than R*ddit for sure, but I feel your pain. Maybe we fire up our own instance and defederate? The same thought has come up in some blahaj chats. It’s absolutely rough, but part of the beauty of the fediverse is controlling whose content you see, but also who can see your content. That, to me, makes the fediverse perfect for communities looking to make safe, exclusive, spaces. I’d even personally consider going so far as to return to old models like ECHO (East Coast Hang Out) where you request and receive your account by snail mail. Idk, adding a vetting process to joining is important for the safety of any oppressed group. In this case adding barriers to entry is not gatekeeping, it’s acting as the bouncer to a space that is in fact reserved for specific people.
