Make sure you go to your libraries in Plex and create a new library for videos directly. Not sure if you did that. It’s worked for me. I add the videos to the folder I selected for the library. After that, I have to go and edit the information through Plex, as like you said, metadata is going to fail.
Anytime I’ve added things here, it seems to work fine.
Hell, I even added a YouTube series as a TV show by creating season folders and adding in the regular naming convention like S01E01. Had to modify everything manually as it didn’t have metadata to scan.
