The one about not saying “I think maybe” is one I actively try to do. Assertiveness is something that doesn’t come naturally to me but I’ve been in too many situations where my lack of assertiveness comes across as uncertainty and introduces confusion into discussions where actually I do know what I’m talking about.

Puzzling was so bad. I couldn’t finish one episode and I love quiz shows like that. The flow was terrible. I think they must be cutting out a lot of thinking time, they’d just give you the question and immediately cut to the team answering it without giving you any time to think about it yourself.

Only Connect is good because they keep all that discussion and thinking time in and let you listen in. So maybe you don’t know that the random name was a cardinal, but you hear them mention it and you know the next guy is a giant and suddenly you’re shouting “American Football teams” at the TV.

I think it’s the way the algorithm works on Lemmy. I was on Lemmy.ml for a bit initially (until I found the tankies…) and yeah the front page didn’t change much at all even federating with other Lemmys. But I don’t think it was from lack of content. When I switched to Kbin the posts would cycle much more frequently and since Kbin enabled federation it’s really felt like there’s enough here to replace my Reddit scrolling addiction.

Browsing on mobile without being asked to log into the app every 10 seconds is already a huge improvement for me.

We don’t have that here on Kbin, at least not by default, maybe there’s a setting I’ve not turned on. Your username shows as just “mitchacho74”, no @ stuff unless I click into your profile.

For people browsing on Kbin: this is the first federated posts I’ve seen on here, am I missing something obvious that tells me this is a post hosted on a different service? As far as I can tell this could have just been any other post on Kbin, which is cool but I’d love it to be clearer that it’s not. It even says “kbin.social” under the title. (I’m on mobile if that makes a difference).

I’m not sure what you were expecting to see? /r/all was never going to look obviously different, there’s just too many people on Reddit. 99.99% of Redditors could leave and the remaining 0.01% would still be enough to churn out a passable couple of pages of content on /r/all.

Plus the people who care about the situation are exactly the people who aren’t currently participating on Reddit, so it’s hardly surprising that no-one is really taking about it there.

They aren’t in your face about the tankie stuff on lemmy.ml but when it comes out holy shit. There was one thread discussing bans for “orientalism” where people were going on about westerners being racist without any hint of irony (that was also where I found out the .ml stands for Marxism–Leninism). I deleted my account there straight away.

At least with lemmygrad.ml you know what you’re getting into…
