Disorder6069to linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Just installed mint yesterday, I get it nowEnglish21·1 month agoWould agree, but Wayland is still broke on nvidia 2060 mobile (got the laptop before I switched to Linux and it doesn’t have integrated graphics either *cough*HP*cough*) so I have to stick with X11 for now… *sigh* I really wanted to try out SwayFX and Hyprland too

Disorder6069to Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Pearson complaining about using Linux to access my course materialEnglish88·1 month agoI ran into this before too, I believe I got around it with a User Agent changer… that or a windows 10 VM with 2 cores and 2GB of RAM that ran only Firefox… or you may be able to just press remind me later and suffer little/no consequences
I think it’s just because people that use Linux are generally more technologically inclined and are more likely to try and get around their crappy DRM
You must not live in America, ultimately it’s all just Hersheys here
(except for m&m’s, which are made by mars)
I think my problem comes from trying to compile for MUSL so I can use the binary in an alpine docker container… I’m working on setting up a docket development environment though, so here’s hoping it works
Ubuntu: was the first distro that came up… hated it and went back to windows Manjaro: tried it after Ubuntu, was great for 2 months until it broke and I swapped to arch Mint: never used it Debian: used it once for a VM because it wasn’t canonical, but it was meh Endeavour: never used it Arch: it was great and I still use it for my cheap side laptop, but I forgot to update it for a month and it broke on my main laptop and I wasn’t good enough with Linux to fix it at the time so that computer runs Nix Nix: used it after arch broke and I was paranoid with having to fix stuff… still use it on my primary computer but am frustrated with how hard it is to develop in rust on
Disorder6069to Linux@programming.dev•What is your favorite Intro to Linux guide?English1·9 months agoFrom what I can tell, that won’t work for me… using a laptop with a dedicated Nvidia 2060 but no iGPU on the i7 (also pretty sure the HP uefi bios doesn’t support iommu)
Thanks for the suggestion though!
Disorder6069to Linux@programming.dev•What is your favorite Intro to Linux guide?English31·9 months agoUnless you can’t pass through a GPU if you need one… or the program you are running has some VM detection that won’t let it run in a VM
Just use massgrave’s activation script from GitHub… works like a charm

Disorder6069to sh.itjust.works Main Community•What's the Lemmy app closest to RIF?English6·2 years agoI’m using Memmy at the moment. It was heavily inspired by Apollo for Reddit (which I used) so I’m happy enough. There are a couple issues still (it’s still hinder development) but as long as you ignore errors when posting and don’t try to resubmit it seems pretty stable to me.
