Lots of Americans here in London, UK. They’ve generally been transferred by their company though. I expect it’s v hard to get in when applying for a new job.
Your original question reads like it’s limited to this thread, not games you’ve seen recommended anywhere and everywhere
Civ II was peak of the series imho… Immersive gameplay trumps graphics
“somehow RIF returned…”
If you’re not adding any value then why don’t engineers send things direct to architects?
C’mon lads, time to solve a murder!
Victoria Taylor :'(
Palestinian border
The what?
Don’t know who you have in mind. But British BBC:
Feb 2022 “How hard will it be to defend Ukraine from Russian invasion?”
December 2023. “Ukraine will… strengthen its defences”
April 2024 - “Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia’s full-scale invasion for two years”
For me getting an alarm clock made a difference. Because that nullified my brains weak excuse that I needed my phone by my bed “for an alarm”. No I didn’t. People have woken up perfectly reliably for years before smartphones. So I got an alarm clock. And that made it easier to turn going to bed into calm reading time instead of doom scrolling (by leaving my phone charging in other room). And that’s made a big difference, not only to quality of reading but also general mood.
I don’t think Lemmy has critical mass unfortunately. To get a lot of eyeballs on something is one of the very few reasons I’d look at reddit’s /r/AskUK or /r/London or one of the specific UK job subs.
Me: sees something “Oh I should tell so-and-so! We were talking about that last week… oh… 5 years ago”
It was the firing of Victoria in 2015 that was a noticeable enshitification moment for me, perhaps followed by the 2016 election where people seemed to lose the ability to have a discussion altogether (increase of bots no doubt not helping). But the worsening trends were there before hand, these were just moments of acceleration.
Surely it’s better that Lemmy is mostly found by those curious enough to go searching? The lower the effort required to get onboard, the lower the effort of posts that follow. Currently Lemmy has a bit of a Reddit-2006 vibe and that’s far better. Quiet, true, but volume doesn’t equal quality and sufficient volume certainly brings the attention of bots and shills.
Citing this as an example of racial capitalism is a weird take when the cladding report found hundreds and hundreds of similarly vulnerable buildings all across the UK, the majority of which were actually private residential blocks (ie not social tenants)
Grenfell didn’t happen because the residents were BAME, it happened because profit driven developers will screw you over whether you’re black or white.
What is it about anarchism that you feel would make people altruistic en masse in a reliable way? It seems to me that the disabled do need the security and support of a state, just a well functioning one
I’m I the only one who pronounces regex with a soft g? Hard g feels so clunky
The UK should absolutely give back cultural artifacts it took from around the world, but everything else you said is silly.
