I know very little about USian politics but I’m gonna ignore that comment. I don’t want to call your political literacy into doubt, but… sorry, I’m gonna have to.

You’ll probably have the answer in another five years…
Much will depend on the soil you inherited and the crops you plant.
East India Company?

I’m so glad the community stuck together to over(ule) the mods’ decision.
Thank goodness the Nazi’s never got into genocide…
195 and 196 communities existed long before Lemmy was up and running…
As I’ve mentioned somewhere else I’d take all that in to consideration if it was a more niche sub - but it isn’t. It very much seems to be that a already existing community found its way to Blahaj where (almost) all of the contributors were happy. Then some mods arbitrarily decided that they didn’t like the instance and moved to… .world, of all places. Back towards centralisation and the possible looming spectre of interacting with meta users too.
I don’t disagree with your first paragraph but partly do with the second.
If it’s a unique channel-type community you started, produce most of the content for and actively moderate quickly and consistently then, for sure, you should have almost complete control… but 196 is/was none of those things.
From what I’ve seen it appears that (at least one of) the mods claim to “own” the community - which is a disturbing way of thinking about moderation, in my opinion.
But is this not a great step forward for A.I. ?
Jumping to incorrect conclusions after scanning the internet quickly. It’s getting more like humans day by day…
I’ve been subbing to some bizarre and niche feeds with an eye to the future on the off chance that Lemmy eventually grows into something massive - and they all get sunk under an avalanche of click bait and popular takes rinsed and repeated. Not saying it’s going to happen, but I’ll be ready if it does.
I refuse to believe that six individuals can be so enormously out of touch with the community they (used to) mod… what’s the real story?
You can sell the house - it’s just not so straight forward for the buyer to get a mortgage.
It literally depends on your morals… it’s a question only you can answer.
I have zero training in this field but once read a paper on this. I think it essentially said that ganja was ok (?) on its on but for people with “brewing psychosis” it could trigger/enable that breakdown.
The other problem might be that simply thinking about the possibility of an episode will freak you out - the existential dread would be very draining.
Me too - I can live happily with the fact that not everyone thinks like me; but I still want to know what the other people are thinking.
It’s called a Comb Over and somebody actually patented it.
Without looking I’m pretty sure it was something about MLK’s dream speech where he mentions:
“…right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers…”
So, nothing massively contentious so far. The transcriber had capitalised the “B” of black but not the “W” of white. I suggested that seemed a very unequal way to address inequality. There was a mini downvote frenzy - eventually some diamond pointed out “AP” has a style guide that suggest capitalisation of one but not the other is correct. Seems weird, but there it is.
He only won in one country… I’m assuming that the dozen or so non-USians on the web are allowed to use OSM…
