  • I purchased my Remarkable 2 back during the 2020 preorder. I received mine back in 2021 and having been using it ever since. I will say, at times it was hard initial to not use paper and sticky notes but over time the organization and tags 🏷️ has really made the device useful. I share that to say don’t put pressure if it takes you a mi it’s to actually ditch paper all together but long-term I don’t buy and planner, any notebooks, nothing and it was worth keeping it and finding ways to integrate it into my work flow, my business and my return to college. As others said you can get third party items or find them on eBay, Mercari, OfferUp, or Poshmark. It was worth sticking with the device and I don’t regret it.

  • I hate to hear that. When I first got my remarkable 2 (preorder in 2020), I too didn’t get the same battery experience that others said. It was until recently that I had experienced an unexpected fast loss after an update. I contacted support and they told me to let it drain. I did and it took several days to reach 100%, which it had never done before. Since completing this and only turning on WiFi when I need it, I have finally experienced the week long battery life. It took a couple of days to get it acting right but it has been. I typically see faster drainage after a software update and then it will right itself.

  • Agree with Tom_Jack_Attack, be sure to look at the pictures real good to see if you see anything that looks like a dent in the screen (clear and multiple pictures of the device). I have purchased and sold quite a few and got really good deals. None have been fake but I have had two slip past me where I didn’t notice the ding on the picture or initial thought it was a dust particle. The sellers didn’t disclose and so I became an expert and looking at the pictures. I share with people all the time you can find them for that price on Mercari, eBay and Poshmark so it sounds like a average price sometimes on the used market, just make sure there is no issues with the battery, pictures or demonstrated use of the device.

  • For the second question, I had my remarkable2 since the late 2020 or early 2021 as I was a pre-order and I haven’t ran out of storage yet and need to offload anything but I guess it depends on how much you use it. I guess the best way would be to leverage the integrations of google drive or Dropbox to back up your items for future use. If it’s a new purchase you should get 1 year free for the cloud service and then it’s $2.99 a month. I just got my mom one and we set it up this weekend and when she went to get cloud storage, it gave her 1 year free and she want be charged the $2.99 until November 2024.

  • If for some reason you just happen to stick with the pen, I purchased this case for travel with my Remarkable or leverage another case for iPad. I’ve had my remarkable since preorder back in 2020 and I have never lost my marker plus, or fall on the floor and break. I always carry it with my hand covering the marker. To be on the safe side though based on others feedback I purchased this case designed for the remarkable. He had to customize the size to fit the Type Folio. I have two other pens as backup as well - The Lamy and the Kaweco Al Sport from Germany (which you have to order the replacement nibs from there). Brandon Boswell got me interested in the Kaweco: https://youtu.be/Rl63SsjeP4I?si=s7QEdRjxgkSD_aZW and I do love it.

If you just want the Remarkable case, you should be able to find a reasonable priced in some cases on eBay or Mercari. Some will be overpriced but someone or whole seller is always posting the Type Folio or Book Folio for rather cheap (I’ve seen them on bid for as low as $35 and sell for that price.

  • Makes total sense and you will like the Remarkable. That was one of the first challenges I had with the Supernote was it was uncomfortable and another issue which now seems to be fixed was trying to find the comfortable position to write, it would always trigger the gestures thus changing the page in mid writing. That was the first reason to stop using it. Supposedly in 2024 maybe later in the year they are coming out with a A5X Thin version simply for that fact. I consider once I see it.

How do you plan to use the device? I too have a Supernote A5X but I use my Remarkable as I was a preorder customer back in 2020. I enjoy the functionality of the Supernote however I tested them side by side for almost a month and realized based on my use case the additional functionality wasn’t something I used so it came down to the form factor, writing feel and just the simplicity of the product which kept me using the Remarkable. As my needs change so might my device.

I haven’t had many problems and yes in general it may not search for a specific word, but from an organization standpoint, I just tag the page with the topic or word, I either highlight or make a start or something on that page and I can still search and find the topic through keywords search. Same way you would color code something in a notebook. Similar to Supernote, I think now in the text function since you can create titles when typing, it creates a table of contents (I’ve seen a table of contents somewhere) just not with an uploaded PDF (bummer).

I haven’t had many issues but similar to other devices user, it can be sporadic and individualized based on use, internet provider, etc. I recommend taking your time but if you want one consider purchasing a used one off eBay or Mercari. You can find a reasonable priced and sometimes amazing deal just be sure to really check the pictures, description and seller ratings. I’ve got my whole family a remarkable just by setting up notifications and finding good deals. I’ve seen some whole item with the Type Folio, Marker Plus and tablet, box and more sell for $375. There are unopened essential box kits (comes with the tablet, marker and book folio together) on there now being sold for $200-$300 most of time from wholesalers.

Good luck and hope you get the device and enjoy the dual experience like I get to enjoy.

  • Not an expert on this as I’m sure it could be a couple of things and I’m sure those more versed will provide additional context and answers. Yesterday I help set my Mom’s new account up and we added the desktop, mobile, and tablet app and pairing. I also recommend she gets “Connect Services” since it is only $2.99 a month due to how she plans to write and leverage her remarkable and Type Folio. I noticed when she set it up, she has the connect service for free until November of 2024. Based on your needs, there may not be value in getting the connect service and that should be ok. For others based on their needs, the few minor aspects it provides they may find useful in their workflow. I’m grandfathered in because I purchased the rM2 back in 2020 when it launched.
