If we want to achieve adoption by the “main stream” consumer market we have to make sure that the Linux distro is absolutely idiot-proof. In the mind of many people, Linux is for IT-nerds and it’s difficult to change a way of thinking. You’ll have to prove it with: 1. Reliability (f.e. support of the EU); 2. Influencers who say that Linux is OK; 3. A Linux distro that is effectively proving that it can work idiot proof. Otherwise Linux is dead on arrival to become mainstream.
In the past, Tesla lawyers even initiated lawsuits against customers who dared to criticize the quality of their cars or services. Such cases are documented and therefore not fake news. Last week, moreover, DOGE dismantled the department responsible for safety control and approval of new cars entering the market. Tesla experienced too many problems with this department in the past and now, through DOGE, took the opportunity to simply dismantle it. Moral of the story… buy a Tesla, a “safe” decision.
Is Bluesky the next X ??? Kissing the ring of authoritarian leaders?
The title is misleading. “Some Swiss companies are using the Europe label.” Yes, Switzerland is part of Europe, but not part of the EU. But… you’re welcome to join the EU as a full member.
It’s hypocrit. They don’t want to be in the EU because they are “so called neutral”, but now the suddenly are using the EU logo because it suits them. Don’t get me wrong: I would like to have SUI into the EU, but then they have to go for the full package and not illegaly clame they are EU, while the’re not.
That’s OK. You don’t have to say something about my post. I just wanted to inform you all that on Lemmy there are also haters, keyboard warriors or people that are so depressed that they can’t see anything positive in a post, a question or a reply.
Well @Leraje, that’s exactely what has happend to me. I asked a simple question in another community and get bashed by some people just like you would expect on some other social. Then I said: “I’m out of here” and I unsubscribed and blocked the community. Just to say that there are dipheads here too.
How are things going in the UK right now?
OK. I’m out of this conversation. Nothing can be a positive outcome of this conversation. So I admit: The European Union is working on the behalf of China, with a hidden authoritarian agenda who wants to make all EU citizens helpless peasants. All actions the EU are taking are not real. They just want to screw us up. I’m moving to the US. Maybe I’ll be better off. (note: sarcasm)
OK, I get it. Maybe we can take a backpack and go living in a cave somewhere. Offgrid, away from everything and we reject any kind of civilization, service and trust, because yes… even your best friend can become your worst enemy. Then why take the risk of having friends? I use the proverb: “Care is the mother of the porcelain store.” But I refuse to question every detail in my life. Have a little faith.
Well collegues, I think we must see it as a positive evolution. We can have some doubts for sure, but there are things moving onto a more independent Europe and we cannot be against that idea. So let’s stay positive and we’ll see what direction things are going. Keep buying European !!!
That’s what big tech companies do, they buy small and promissing companies they think that once can become a competitor and then… destroy it. The young startups just take the money and can retire early.
You got the point.
IMO there should come an European law that forces computer manufactuers to offer customers the option between Windows or Linux. This is a way to make Linux more mainstream, but still leaving the final decission to the customer.
OK… whatever. I rest my case and I move on.
Yep. To be clear… for me that’s OK, bc I understand it, but I showed it to my wife and daughter and they were thinking… “that looks complicated”. So… if we would be able to mask the @xxxxx things, it would look more “simple” and clean.
Yes, I have Voyager myself (little mouse icon) and I’m using it, but still I find it quite confusing for non-tech people. I try to explain. I’m a High School teacher in graphic design and crossmedia. I work mostly with teenagers between 14-18yo. They can work very well with the software, but don’t try to explain the technology behind it. They don’t wanna know or they don’t care, as long as the software works and the program does what they want it to do. I also spend years educating adults to work with new technology. When I look at the Voyager interface, I see: Home, All, Local. I see lemmy.wtf; feddit.uk; feddit.org; lemmy.world, etc… Maybe people think that I’m just crazy and/or overreacting, but I can guarantee you that alot of people don’t understand all the tech things behind it. Only 0.1% of the users of FB, Insta, TikTok, etc… have a clue (or are interested) in the tech behind the apps.
Hahaha. That’s great LOL. More than welcome. :-)
THANK YOU ALL for your replies. I’ll do a clean install and made a backup of my files (was not difficult bc most stuff I have in the cloud). I’m moving indeed from Mint to OpenSuse Tumbleweed. I don’t know exactely why, but it seems to me an interesting thing to do. Still figuring out what distro fits me best.
