If you’re not really into the civilization series, I would always wait when the game has a huge sale.

I started with Civ5 during a 10$ sale with all expansions, 200 Hours. As a treat I bought Civ6 on launch, which while slightly barebone (all civ games are on launch) was really fun, and after buying the expansions and a couple DLC I got 500h on it so clearly a good investment.

I would put Civ6 and Civ7 in your wishlist to get notified when there’s a sale, and see if you like it or not after the fact.

The current reviews for 7 are mostly about the UI and the limited selection of civs to choose, also for some reason some players can’t bare the idea of stopping the game at the cold war just before the moon landing.

Tbh I’m a bit torn with Civ7, as while I really like the mechanics and all, the game seems pretty empty content-wise with such a small number of civs (and the 4th Era that will be in the 1st expansion)… But on the other hand civilization has constantly been a game I’ve enjoyed hundreds of hours, and it seems I’ll enjoy this one at least just as much!

I want to reward Firaxis from making good games and give them money, but I don’t want to reward 2K games with their business tactics (especially with Denuvo…).

The best way I’ve discovered 40k lore beyond hearing from a friend and some meme is Luetin09, which has a great narrator voice, consider his channel a huge audio library of alleged facts and stories.

For Steam games, you need to go in the settings and activate the Proton compatibility layer: Steam -> Settings -> Compatibility -> Enable Steam Play for all other titles.

Then it will let you install windows games.

For the mods at least, the dev interview at PAX clearly had a moment when one guy said "the possibilities of combination with civilizations switching is going to be higher, especially with the modding community adding custom civs.

But since they said a huge part of the playerbase is console, I’m guessing mods won’t be using the steam workshop but the launcher so that consoles can have mods…

As for Linux support yeah I would like to hope, maybe the stats of Civ6 on the steamdeck could push them to make it compatible but if they have denuvo I doubt it…

The USSR (then Russia) did this in the 90s, first prototype was a 20m wide reflector. Second prototype failed and then interest and money went away. Originally it was meant to also test solar sails feasibility.

Literally how I play chess, can’t be bothered to do math and just doing gut feeling… I think we need an full rules revamp for chess!

I still enjoy a game of Planetary Annihilation every other time, might not float your boat if you’re looking for a much more classic RTS. But smashing moons to the enemy’s base has never felt so awesome.
