Playstation got much more games, especially third person. For me it’s a game changer, because I can’t play first person games on console, even if I love the world and the story, I just hate 1st person perspective. I can easily say that half of the games I played on ps3 and ps4 were ps exclusives. Xbox offers much better deal with a game pass than ps plus extra/premium, but for me it lacks the games I haven’t played yet and would like to try. As a someone with a very limited time to play, I only play aaa games and still got a lot to catchup, like GoW Ragnarok, all 3 Spiderman games, hogwart legacy and many more. But if someone is playing idk, fifa and cod only, Xbox will be better due to cheaper online gaming.
So I’d say it depends on the:
Age of your kids
Console used by their friends
Commitment you or kids would have to pay for a games and plans
