Agree! Still I hear a lot of indirect complaints from managers in my company that we are too little at the office. They claim all kinds of made up resons, “bad for morale”, “losing the connection to the company”, “harder to onboard new people”.
Still, during the pandemic they were pushing the message that productivity INCREASED.
Really, I dont get it. At my work we are professionals and micromanage us where we sit to do our work is just annoying and if anything will decrease “morale” and “connection to the company”. And if anyone needs hands-on face-2-face then we will schedule a day in the office. Im sure the teams will figure these things out themselves and do not need someone telling them which room to sit while doing it.
Its actually quite disgusting - monetising on top of people doing voluntary work with zero pay.
This is a great start. I think a first goal should not be to replace big tech, but the create thriving alternatives. You should not have to feel that you are missing out by not using facebook, twitter, instagram, reddit etc. And with Mastodon/Lemmy/kbin we are getting there even if it is very very early still.
I think kbin is pretty nice as it is and I am sure the developers will make it even better in the future.
A really nice bonus is the lack of advertisements on the platform (or maybe I am blocking it, I dont know?). compared to official reddit it feels very refreshing to only have content to focus on.
I work in tech and even for me it took a few minutes to grasp that kbin and lemmy instances could all communicate with each others. If you’re used to the centralized web then it might be foreign that kbin can read lemmy content etc. It’s like saying instagram can be used to access Twitter for a normal person.
But for now I don’t think the normal user has to be the priority. They will learn when they have to move to be able to access the content they are after
Yes, the fight for the WDC is dead (if it ever was alive), but looks as we have a 3-way fight for second. I will just pretend Verstappen is not in the race anymore lol.
Its understandable that (some) people have this view, they just want to enjoy the content they are used to.
But what I think they are missing is that there are a lot of people that put in a lot of effort in making free content to everyone else, and when a large group of the contributors are upset then this user’s “free content” gets worse.
As a user you just have to accept that everyone will not have the same view as you and move on to another place where you can look at funny pictures or whatever.
The best analogy I heard so far is email; everyone gets that you can send an email from gmail to outlook. We are just not used to that websites can interconnect with each other but give it some time and it will be second nature to people

Some establishments yes, but in most places I would not smell alcohol unless someone spilled it all over the floor. It’s anyway much less compared to smoke that will stick to your clothes
