I, showing my age, remember when ms ie ruled the roost, it was the only browser in use by most people and Firefox had been launched but was struggling to make headway.
Two things changed stuff, ms pretty much abandoned ie6 and that backfired on them and the EU insisted on users being given a choice of browsers on windows install.
Firefox gained big market share in the next few years 😊
