As long as you are putting in a little effort I find it doesn’t matter how things turn out. The guy I posted here has a face not even a mother could love, but I had fun painting under these constraints and I know I did about the best I could with what I had, so he’s awesome!

Seems like people got your questions answered. Just wanna say that those machines (Prusas) are very nice, and not generally cheap, so even if it was a throwaway for someone make sure to get em a 12 pack or something! That’s an awesome gift!

Thanks for the kind words! I’m sure that with a little practice you could crank out something comparable. Grab yourself some dollar store army figurines, the cheapest variety pack of acrylic paint you can find, and see what you can make! You’ll be surprised how good things look when you’re the one who made it.
Thanks for the advice. I generally would not use these paints for mini painting, I only am using them for the group setting. I put a small bit of thinner containing flow aid in the clean water cup, which worked well enough for the application. I think getting the additives involved will overwhelm my guests (nobody has any painting or artistic experience).
I agree that painting the eyes was a poor decision. I didn’t like the look of it with just the skin tone, but it probably would’ve looked fine after a wash. I’ll probably skip the eyes when it comes to Paint Day.
But like… not always. Wall adapters (at least US ones) can be plugged in upside down, so if that’s upside down the holes face down. I have a 3d printer who’s motherboard is mounted on the top of the chassis, flipping the USB port so that it’s “upside down”. A lot of cheap dual-USB chargers that have the two USB ports right next to each other have them mirrored, so one faces up and the other faces down.
Granted, I’ve always found the “argh USB!!!” frustration to be more a meme than anything; when I’m plugging in a USB device, I likely know what orientation the male side is (flash drives and the like are usually oriented the same way), and it takes half a second of paying attention when going to plug it in to look at the female port to see what direction it’s meant to go in.

There’s just a tendency of US centrist-ism online where a lot of Americans assume that the rest of the world cares as much about what goes on here as we do. The idea that the whole world is watching the election closely, I feel, is an example of this, but of course I could be wrong.

Re: dry. I’m convinced PLA doesn’t care about moisture. Watched a video of a guy that soaked a roll in a tub of water overnight, then printed off the roll with it still in the tub. Looked exactly the same as it did before the soak.
Mileage may vary of course but ever since then I’ve been leaving my PLA out and it’s never once given me trouble (the infused ones a little bit).

Oh, I actually love your idea of some sort of marking to indicate they’re of the same army. In the campaign I made these guys for, the orcs are being manipulated by a white dragon. It would’ve been so cool to have like a frosty blue-white slash going across their face or maybe like 3 white lines on the shields.
