An epidemiological analysis published in Nature Medicine estimates that 63% more women than men died due to heat, with the highest incidence in the Mediterranean region
The headline is terrible. Here’s the truth … PER the article … If you actually read the article itself.
Table 1. The 10 European countries with the highest mortality rate (deaths per million) attributable to heat in summer 2022.
Europe | Attributable Rate (deaths per million)
---------------age | deaths
---------------
80+ | 1,684
65-79 | 160
0-64 | 16
overall | women | men
114 | 145 | 93
Table 2. Top 10 European countries with the highest number of heat-attributable deaths in summer 2022.
Europe | Attributable Rate (deaths per million)
-----------------------overall | women | men
-----------------------
61,672 | 35,406 | 21,667
Ahm … so … what’s so abnormal about this exactly?
Again, let’s emphasize … at the age. Age. Yes, obviously, the more you grow up, the more sensitive you are to everything . 80+ | 1,684 deaths? It could be from literally anything else. They’re at an age that we consider average maximum.
0-64 | 16 deaths? Really? And that’s … significant? It could be because they were extreme cases. They’re out of a BILLION (760+ million at Europe) in THE WHOLE EUROPE.
I’m PRO-climate-change. I work at a company that deeply emphasizes on renewables (Powerfactors). I read papers/researches. I know that it exists and what happens and where the materials come from and yada yada.
But THIS, is pro-climate-change propaganda. It’s another thing to provide statistics that matter, and another to mislead.
It’s articles and headlines like these, that draw people away from knowing the actual truth.
