This is a thing that flares up around German WW2 cemeteries in the Netherlands and Belgium every few years. I’m firmly in the camp that preserving such places is what we do because we’re better than them. We do it because we’re not animals like them, and even though they don’t deserve it, we still maintain those cemeteries.
And then we build a big fucking fence around it and lock it up, because you don’t get to just walk around and worship all the Fucking Nazi’s. You can get a guided tour though. I visited one where there was mother telling her children that’s where her grandpa is buried, and that he was a good aren’t, but a very bad person. That’s why we keep those graves, for posterity, not for the fuckers in the graves.
Of course, US civil war graveyards are basically the exact opposite, unfortunately.
I was being flippant mostly. I don’t truly believe we should disinter confederate graveyards. I don’t know how America gets over the cult of the Confederacy though.
German seems to have gotten over the Nazis in 80 years, but they rebuilt their government and I think hate speech is very much not protected unlike the US constitution.
