I’d bet money that a decent number of people who commit those kinds of crimes keep Grindr on their phone and will eventually use it to find someone to hook up with.

From everything I’ve seen anytime I see honophobia at levels extreme enough to do shit like this it’s always closeted homosexuals who are angry because they’ve had to suppress their own sexuality.
