Hi everyone,

I created this community as i was not able to find any audiobooks focused community on the lemmy fediverse.

Do subscribe and post anything related to books and audiobooks.

Also do let me know if anyone would like to mod this community.

Thanks for making this! Good idea.

Quick question: what’s your stance on audio dramas? I feel weird talking about them here since they’re not books, but yet listening to one is almost indistinguishable from listening to an audiobook. The only difference is they tend to have much higher production value, are usually free, and the text is generally geared more towards an audio-only experience with less narration and more sound direction.

Do you think this sub has space for both things, or should I not spam? So far no one has really made an audio fiction lemmy. There’s one on kbin, but it’s harder to access and has like three posts…

      Hi,

      Thanks for coming over.

With regards to Audio dramas, I am definitely of the opinion that it should be discussed here. Audiodramas are of much value to those who like the immersive experience which these provide.

Regarding the availability, I only know of those produced by either GraphicAudio (paid) and BBC (paid). Please feel free to list other sources.

You are more than welcome to post anything related to Audiobooks/Audio Dramas/Radio Dramas etc. I don’t think podcasts would fit in this category hence not recommending those.

      Have a happy stay here!

There are a lot of audio dramas that are distributed as podcasts. They’re not podcasts, but they use the same delivery mechanism/apps as podcasts for distribution. At least two BBC series that I know of are distributed this way for free - The Lovecraft Investigations and Tumanbay.

So if you haven’t heard of any free ones, that’s probably why.

Normally I’d recommend /r/audiodrama on reddit for a list of recommendations, but they’re participating in the blackout and the aforementioned kbin magazine with 3 posts is where they moved to. I could just provide a list of series if you like, though. Because they use podcast distribution systems there isn’t really a single source, it’s just a matter of looking up specific, individual shows.

          Thanks for the info.

Please do share your inputs on Audiodramas and the sources in a seperate post. Many others will definitely make use of it.

Sure. I made an old comment on askreddit recommending a bunch, with brief synopses, a few years ago that people really liked. I’ll work on updating it slightly and will post when I get a chance.
