On the one hand this is true, but also i get it. Twitter is where the people are. Where are they gonna go, Tumblr? Mastodon instances everybody defederates?

You say that like NSFW content doesn’t encompass 2/3 of the content of the internet. There are plenty of places. Not as centralized as Twitter, sure, I grant you that, but the market is out there. For furries it’s e621. For non-furries it’s Paheal. For regular old irl porn, there’s OnlyFans. For everything else, there’s Mastercard toss it on Pornhub and call it a day.

Twitter is only where the people are at because people go there because that’s where the people are at. It’s a self-referential loop. Break that loop and the people will find somewhere else. You aren’t going to prevent the internet from having porn. Build it and they will come (heh).

Gallery websites are a far fucking cry from the kind of interaction and community you could get from Tumblr and even Twitter at its peak. There’s also a ton of stuff you just can’t post (or maybe that’s “view”? Or “view while logged out”?) on a site like paheal. e621 is a little more libertine, i guess. From an artist’s perspective, both of these are trash. From a queer perspective they kinda suck, too, and the tagging systems on both sites leave much to be desired. Yeah, maybe for consuming porn these can be replacements but i am not convinced at all.

My point with bringing those up though was that there are other communities than Twitter out there. They might suck right now but they don’t have to always. If the crowd leaves Twitter to make their communities elsewhere, maybe you could get that sort of interaction on those platforms. Or make your own new platform.

I admit it’s a stretch, but it’s possible. Mostly I just want to see people stop funding Musk. I’ll grasp at straws for that.
