As much as I try to stay away from AI, I think some functionalities in the #Fediverse can and should be automated.
Like detecting a post’s language? I keep forgetting to tag my posts the correct language, and apparently others too. Language filters don’t work as a result. I think posts should be able to be auto-tagged based on a detected language.
you don’t need AI for that though. for example, you can search the first few words in wordlist plain text files (that are freely available as spell check dicts on linux via package management) and it’s likely the one with most hits. also the characters unicode block names can help.
@lurch even better! I wonder if that would also work for bilingual people like me. I code switch a lot of times in my posts where I start the post in English then somewhere in the middle I start talking in Filipino. Of course most of the time, I tag it correctly as Filipino, but I sometimes forget it.
