Interestingly it was a tie between the two largest parties, except that the Speaker was Conservative so couldn’t stand as an MP, giving the Liberal Party one seat advantage, which they used to form a coalition with the Irish Parliamentary party to form a government, making H H Asquith the last Liberal Party prime Minister.
