The lawsuit, which was filed on 6 January in a US District Court in the Eastern District of Missouri, alleges that the abuse started when she was three and Mr Altman was 12.

In a joint statement on X, with his mother and two brothers, Mr Altman denied the allegations, saying “all of these claims are utterly untrue.”

In the filing, which has been seen by the BBC, Ms Altman alleged that the abuse, which took place over many years, included rape.

The lawsuit requested a jury trial and damages in excess of $75,000 (£60,100).

I wonder what the final damage figure was. As weird as this sounds, a more modest damage request would be notable. I am not saying Altman did or didn’t rape her, but one can’t deny the PR factor around this topic.

It’s pounds, so I guess it is not taking place in the US, which ist maybe the reason for the normal dispute value.

Read the first sentence again. It was filed in a US district Court. The number was converted to pounds for the convenience of the BBC’s intended audience. The damages are in excess of 75000 so that it could qualify for federal, not state court.
