The part of these peoples’ plan that never made any sense to me is their animosity toward nature.

It’s not just that they disregard its value, it feels at times that they actively hate it. But the thing that sticks in my craw a little the fact that they must know that they (or at the very least their children and their children) will live with the consequences of all this shit?

There’s something willfully suicidal about it. I feel a bit like I got on a bus and the driver has just launched us off a bridge because he wants to off himself.

I saw this attitude growing up around evangelicals. “God gave man sovereign control of the earth to benefit us” kind of nonsense.

These assholes see a beautiful park like Yosemite and are disgusted that it’s full of people relaxing and enjoying the scenery; because all they see is a forest of trees to cut down and a mountain range just waiting to be mined.

They don’t care about the long term consequences at all because they’re also convinced that Jesus is going to return any day now, and when he does the entire planet is getting incinerated as all physical reality of the universe is summarily disintegrated as god sends all the good people to heaven and the rest of us losers to hell for all eternity.

I don’t know how many times I’ve heard the argument that NOT clear cutting the world’s forests was actually bad stewardship of the planet that their god ‘gave’ us.

      It’s called Accelerationism.

They indeed want to accelerate the impending manmade disasters. They know they can financially weather the storm, and they see how much further the divide can be if they’re on top when the world is in shambles.

Well, yes and no. The guys rolling coal in their pickups have no ability to financially ride out the effects of climate change. The people in Florida whose homes are falling into the sea aren’t better off.

What’s happening is that a substantial segment of voters have tied their identity to the idea of “not being leftists” and that means that anything leftists care about is automatically bad. They obsessively perform these displays of anti-environmentalism because being against the left is so tied up in all these deeply held core beliefs about their identity, to a point where they no longer know how to disentangle any of it.

And yes, this behaviour is being actively encouraged by wealthy accelerationists, because it benefits them.

After the first few millions, being rich doesn’t give you any satisfaction from material gain. You simply cannot consume that much more.

So being rich does not become about what you have, but how much more you have compared to everyone else. By preventing other people from having their needs fulfilled and living a good life, you can make your own life better relatively speaking.

It is the attitude of a toddler that wants to have the toy of his brother, and kicks screams and fights for it, but once he has it he throws it away and wants the other toy his brother is playing with.

Most of these people are psychopathic toddlers and the only safeguards against them is to limit how rich people can become. Because at some point it will always be about making other people worse off, since they maxed out what they could possibly make use of for themselves.

I’m under the impression that these guys are driven workaholics. They just can’t stop. Working is their hobby and playtime. They just can’t sit still if there’s something that can be done.
They have to squeeze out everything there is to squeeze. And if there’s something -like a law- that’s preventing them from doing that they’ll fight it with every fiber of their body.
