Yeah, nobody is going to be attracted to everyone, and that’s okay.
But a person’s value isn’t based on whether or not you want to have sex with them, or even if you want them to model so you can paint them.
So, beauty standards are absolutely no excuse to be a misogynist jerk, which is exactly what the kind of behavior the author describes is. Don’t like how someone looks, fine, whatever, go about your day and mind own damn business. Which applies beyond this specific issue as well, but still.
Tangentially, fuck beauty standards and the idea that they’re useful for anything. They change and shift to begin with. Not only over time as a culture, but in individuals over a lifetime. Yeah, yeah, there’s some things that apply broadly, but they’re still subject to subjective interpretation and priority, so even that isn’t a great metric to use for much of anything.
Dammit, now I’m mad. Why the fuck don’t people bother to look for a person’s beauty? It’s there. It’s always there. Even absolutely abysmal people have some degree of something beautiful in their appearance if you actually look rather than just scrape the surface. It is something you have to practice to get good at, but it isn’t hard. It just takes the willingness to not be a judgemental asshole for a split second and look.
It’s a thing.
