Let me preface this with a few remarks. I love this instance. I’m generally in favour of topic-specific instances, and I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to @[email protected] for creating and maintaining diagonlemmy.social.

However, there are a couple of drawbacks to diagonlemmy, and I think it is worth considering whether this community might be better served elsewhere.

This instance has only one admin, and they are not in a position where they can regularly monitor this instance, nor have they recruited any additional admins or even moderators. As an example, it took ~4 months for my local account to be manually approved.

This has not been a major problem so far, but it is risky. As this community grows, we could see a higher frequency of situations where prompt admin/mod action is necessary. We also run the risk of the instance going offline indefinitely with no way to know when (or even if) it might be fixed.

Blueberry has acknowledged this risk and even suggested that we might migrate to a more actively managed instance. I have much respect for their humility in suggesting this.

If we do choose to move, where should we go? From the existing communities, we have a few options:

I think the literature.cafe would be a nice match for the topic, but I am interested to hear what others think.

P.S. Image uploads are not enabled on this server, which I think might cause federation issues if a user on a remote instance attempts to upload an image. As much of the content posted here are memes, this would be an advantage of moving to another server.

I am for moving the community. It’s a question of time anything breaks and the instance is gone. However I really like the name [email protected] and don’t think a harrypotter@ community reflects its nature of being a meme community.

Most important thing is to not move to a large instance like lemmy.world, Lemmy is centralized enough.

The name is indeed nice. How about having it on SJW? @[email protected] you already have your main there, and the Leaky Cauldron + “shit just works” combo seems like a good fit
