I had a faint hope our military wasn’t garbage enough to gargle Trumps balls but this is pretty telling. I guess I still cling to some kind of childish naivety.

He fired the leaders who had a backbone and replaced them with sycophants, who have no respect for the constitution and democracy.

I figured. Never saw the exact news but I find it troubling that it’s that easy to change military leadership. Hopefully a portion of the troops understand the importance of fragging in a situation like this.

Most everything he has done would have easily been challenged, prevented, and or caused an impeachment if Congress was majority held by Democrats. It isn’t a difficult argument to say he has committed high crimes and misdemeanors, or treason, against the US by abdicating his responsibilities to uphold the US constitution… in many areas; due process, equal rights, free speech, separation of church and state, the good faith funding and management of congressional established agencies within the executive… just to name a few.

Edit: also, destroying the US from within while cozying up to enemy nation states, that’s super treasonous… then there’s blackmailing Ukraine, again, and waging trade wars with allies.

Yup. Everything you said works for my brain. Hopefully my generation and the young people actually vote for people who want to change policy and don’t get stuck in identity politics for the 10th straight year. Careful pragmatism will work for everybody with half a brain.

Where did all of those people go after being fired? Surely they can’t be ok sitting idly by and watching this all unfold…

Every person in every role in every system makes their own decisions. We’re all just people. It happens that, in the military, there’s a very firm habit backed up with some enforcement, of always deciding to do just whatever the person “above” you tells you to do, but that habit gets broken sometimes. During times of political or systemic upheaval, it gets broken a lot more than it would seem like.

The military people will certainly show up and gargle, no question. But they’ll also think it’s an incredibly stupid activity to be part of, and they’ll remember that he was the one that ordered them do it, and they definitely won’t remember him fondly for it as events get more and more chaotic and exciting in the months and years to come. Personally I’m in favor of him doing as much of this stuff as possible.

I agree with everything you said but the people who think all this shit is stupid have…HAVE to do something if things swing the way it usually does under a regime trying to become authoritarian. It’s the grunts that will be important. They can’t just follow orders and just be alright with it. If most are just fine with being very stupid authoritarian tools, all is lost.

It’s not what this country was meant to be but we keep bending over for the turds that ruin or end peoples lives.

This is still the dumb bullshit stage of things, parades are the sort of time-waste you expect to have to do once in a while. If it turns out to be a pretext and he tells them to keep marching across the Canadian border for US-similation, that’s a different story. Long walk though so plenty of time to mull it over.

It would be a perfect way to stage a military coup though… You’ve got a reason to have thousands of troops on hand, military vehicles and armaments of various kinds.

I’m not saying the military has any assertions on staging such an act, and it definitely would not be as desirable as the judiciary or the legislative branch holding him accountable. But… It does seem like a pretty good opportunity to exploit Trump’s egomaniacal desire for puffery.

I don’t really thing we have a functional government anymore so the justice system doesn’t really exist except for poor people. Poor people like myself just get to eat all the turds shat out by the current justice system that’s controlled by people with money. Trump’s ability to escape treason charges taught me that. There’s never been a bigger traitor in the history of this basic bitch country. The biggest sign of this country’s sickness is that a greasy, sleazy, orangish, spraly tan hair slicked back used car dealer was elected for a 2nd time.

Publicly televised military massacre. Trump is doing Saddam shit, and I wouldn’t put it past him to simply try to order the military to either start a shooting war with a near peer during said parade, or order them to gun down Congress/the SC.

There are some messed up people in the military who are willing to do questionable things, but they still have friends and family outside of the military who would certainly look down on that. I think most people would balk at orders to gun down the other branches of government, especially since the court and Congress are majority conservative and ostensibly on Trump’s side and the military leans conservative. If there is a public massacre, it’ll probably be someone he sees as an easy target for his show of force, immigrants that he was blocked from deporting perhaps
