When I got my house the basement had some what I assumed was gross looking tan colour painted over everything.

I was wrong. Everything. Trim, electrical sockets, ceiling, walls, doors, knobs…everything… All of it was painted in the same gross muted Rose colour that I could only distinguish once I started painting over it.
