What on earth do you even mean by this? Other consoles and streaming services aren’t owed Activision games

How to tell me you literally don’t understand what the competition and market authority’s job is

The clue is in the fucking name.

Monopoly power, not a monopoly. JFC

As you saying the US’ attempt to block this was wrong also?

    Here’s the CMAs reasoning

The UK cloud gaming market is growing fast. Monthly active users in the UK more than tripled from the start of 2021 to the end of 2022. It is forecast to be worth up to £11 billion globally and £1 billion in the UK by 2026. By way of comparison, sales of recorded music in the UK in 2021 amounted to £1.1billion.

Microsoft has a strong position in cloud gaming services and the evidence available to the CMA showed that Microsoft would find it commercially beneficial to make Activision’s games exclusive to its own cloud gaming service.

Microsoft already accounts for an estimated 60-70% of global cloud gaming services and has other important strengths in cloud gaming from owning Xbox, the leading PC operating system (Windows) and a global cloud computing infrastructure (Azure and Xbox Cloud Gaming).

The deal would reinforce Microsoft’s advantage in the market by giving it control over important gaming content such as Call of Duty, Overwatch, and World of Warcraft. The evidence available to the CMA indicates that, absent the merger, Activision would start providing games via cloud platforms in the foreseeable future.

    Kapeesh?

You can’t have monopoly power without being a monopoly lol. The clue is in the name ;)

Yes, the FTCs attempt to block it was also wrong - that’s why they were absolutely annihilated in court 😂. Not to mention that the FTC and CMA are seeking to block it for different things, the FTC for console foreclosure and the CMA for cloud gaming foreclosure. The CMA said there is no console SLC concerns while FTC say there are, and the FTC say there are no cloud concerns while the CMA say there are 😂.

There’s also the fact that Activision have said, and their internal documents back it up, that they had no intention of putting their games on any cloud service in the future, which goes in the face of the CMAs concerns in that last paragraph.

The CMA were right to do an investigation - the law literally says that they have to - but their cloud concerns are wrong. 40 other countries approved the merger with zero concerns. The FTC had no cloud concerns. The EC had minor cloud concerns that were alleviated with some small behavioural remedies. The CMA are the outlier here, and they’re wrong and they know it - which is why as soon as the FTC got their arses handed to them they came scurrying back to Microsoft to try and make a deal that would rightly let it pass but would give them a semblance of respect back. The judge even criticised them for the way it looks like they were just hoping the FTC would strike it down and then caved when they didn’t.

The FTC were delaying and delaying the deal with the hope that the EC would deny it. They didn’t. They then hoped that the CMA would, but the CMA seem to have also been bluffing hoping that the FTC would stop it. Their bluff was called and now they’re scrambling to save face. The cloud gaming market is minuscule, and Activision games aren’t going to give Microsoft a monopoly going forward in it.

Microsoft selling the cloud publishing rights to Ubisoft to get this deal through is no concern to them. The cloud rights will now make them money from Ubisoft, for a market that is at best insignificant and at worst going to fail.

Monopoly power is how you get a monopoly ffs

Monopoly power is the power that a single company or small group of companies (called a monopolist) have over setting the prices in a single market. A monopoly occurs when a single company is the only provider of a product or service in a given market sector. In order for a monopoly market to exist, the market must possess several characteristics: the market must have a very high barrier to entry; and the existing firm must have an economy of scale, they must be the only sellers in the market, and they must have the ability to set the prices.

Activision being solely on MS platform is a monopoly 😂

Activision on Ubisoft, or ANY OTHER PLATFORM is not. I don’t expect you to understand this considering your previous lack of reading comprehension, but competition on price amongst resellers like Ubi creates a market, instead of. A. MONOPOLY.

Maybe you should Google the meaning of nascent while you’re at it.

Oh, and what’s next week’s lottery numbers, seeing as you’re a prediction expert. 😂🤡

Edit. And you’re wrong on the FTC part as well

Agency alleges that maker of Xbox would gain control of top video game franchises, enabling it to harm competition in high-performance gaming consoles and subscription services by denying or degrading rivals’ access to its popular content

Keep going tho, your ms fanboyism is hilarious

So by your flawed definition Microsoft already have a monopoly since their first party games are only on xcloud? That also means sony have a cloud monopoly too, since their first party games are only on PS+ 😂.

You clearly don’t understand what a monopoly is. Activision games only being on one platform doesn’t make a monopoly. You’re saying that Activision games are so powerful in the industry that without them no competing platform can survive. Is that what you think? Funny, because the Switch has no Activision games and it’s trouncing the competition 😂. Oh but also by your definition the switch has a monopoly since nintendo games aren’t on any other consoles 😆.

By your definition all 3 console makers have a monopoly 😂 😂 😂

How am I wrong about the FTC? They don’t mention the cloud streaming market as a concern, just consoles and game subscription services.

You really need to get an adult to read and explain this stuff to you. Maybe ask your teacher tomorrow.

Lol, I don’t make the definitions dipstick, it is what it is.

So you agree that Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo all have a monopoly in video game consoles? And that both Sony and Microsoft have a monopoly in the cloud gaming market?

You know that by definition more than 1 company can’t have a monopoly, right?

Re: cloud I apologize as I misremembered, probably because they basically didn’t argue cloud at all in their court cases that they lost.
