State corrections officials have demoted and stopped paying a top Department of Corrections official who got arrested last week after police accused her of causing an August drunken driving crash in Ocean County that seriously injured an elderly woman.

Tracey Shimonis-Kaminski, 46, was deputy commissioner overseeing department operations when she became the target of a state corruption investigation in April 2022 and subsequently got suspended and banned from all correctional facilities.

Does your job involve driving? All that does is increase your suffering by removing your ability to afford a lawyer. Is your boss that much of a dick?

I don’t know why you’d argue with the employee in this situation. It’s the employer who makes that call.

I’m saying that firing somebody for something outside of work not affecting their work is a pretty shitty thing to do.

I meant my criticism to be divorced from the main topic. Certainly police should be held to a higher standard.

Driving under the influence is knowingly putting yourself and everyone else around you at risk of injury or death. I can’t blame employers for not wanting to keep someone like that. It’s not like an employee smoking a blunt or something in their off time.

I do believe that we have the presumption of innocence in the US. Until we have been proven guilty in a court of law, we should have every right to defend ourselves. Hard to defend yourself when you can’t pay for a lawyer because you’ve been fired.
