Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon hit a record low for the month of November, according to figures released Friday, as President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's government touted its environmental record at the UN climate talks.
All of the doom and gloom around this news is depressing. Yes, deforestation is still occurring and that is bad. But it isn’t like all of this is going to flip on a dime. I don’t think it’s useful or healthy to, as to say, let perfection be the enemy of progress. I think we should celebrate that the efforts being made to stop deforestation obviously are working and we should be full steam ahead.
