Horrific. Very fortunate that there weren’t any fatalities.

Can’t wait to hear the excuse explaining this one.

    77-year-old woman

Possibly, or maybe she just fell asleep. Investigation appears to be ongoing.

Everyone should have to retest for their driving license every 5 years. I let mine lapse during COVID and had to retest, it wasn’t a pain, I learned some stuff I had forgotten, and moved on. It would filter out a large portion of the population who shouldn’t still be allowed to drive. It’s a skill that fades and rules change, especially over a persons lifetime

Nah, probably 10 years until ~70 years old, and make it a driving test. Written tests are largely a waste of time, because there’s a huge difference between knowing something and actually doing that thing.

Where I live a licence lasts 5 years. I have said we should to do a road test every time you renew. It already lasts two years when you first get it, then five thereafter. I say every time your renew you redo the written and road tests.

One of my grandparents got his license in the early 1940s and only stopped driving in 2019. People still had horses on the road in the early 1940s. For ages he didn’t own a car and just drove his tractor everywhere. It was a different world.
