Big moving goalposts there. Maybe direct some of that vitriol at the execs, the ones who are actually not doing shit for humanity.

The goalpost is still not having stuff like this just because some asshoIe somewhere wants more money.

And nothing will actually change if workers keep sucking it up and doing the unethical garbage they are told to do. If complaining to them did anything, this wouldn’t be a problem in the first place.

Workers need to eat from every industry. The issue is almost never with them. Let me ask you this, do you have the same level of hate towards the cashiers at Walmart? Or the waiters at the restaurants you go to? No, probably not, so why this unique level of anger towards devs?

I dont have specific hate for any of those professions you mentioned. Thats including developers.

I do think some of these workers (namely software devs, but many others too) have the power to stand up and go elsewhere at the very least.

I don’t think most developers working for a big studio in a first world country are that worried about food though.

So it’s because they have a better paying job? Because they earn better than the cashiers and thus “don’t have to worry” about food, so they can do what they want? Software devs are still pretty trash paid, compared again, to the execs. They have a bit more wiggle room than a service industry worker, sure, but by no means “fuck you” money, except the one-in-a-million. They’re working class just like you and me and all the service industry people. Aim your anger at the dudes in fancy suits and more 0s in their bank account than anyone should reasonably have.

Pretty much. The more money you make, all other things being equal, the more time you can spend between jobs without food running out. I specifically said they are less worried not that they are free to stop working willy nilly. Moreover strikes and similar protests can be organized in a way to make this less impactful.

Again I swear I have no huge anger for these people, but I hope you realize these things are not mutually exclusive. Meaning anger alone won’t fix the problem with execs. Having devs refuse to purposefully build software that is invasive, addictive or whatever it is, can and will hurt execs.

Workers that are better paid in the first place are in a better position to do this, yes, and would work better than simply raging at the execs.

This all sounds like you just want someone else to start the fight. If anything, the more downtrodden and more numerous low-earning people have much more reason to strike and start fighting back, and will affect more change. Their jobs are actually required for our society to continue functioning, unlike most dev work, particularly game dev.

I don’t have an issue with most of the actual content of what you said. The only issue I have is that it’s kinda counterproductive. Realistically, all of these groups need to rise against the people making the decisions. They WANT us to be angry at the people they’re giving commands. The top class wants the middle and lower fighting each other.

I do fight. We just need the brunt of the people to also be fighting. Our only real advantage is our numbers, and it has to actually accomplish shit.

I think the longer it takes us, the more brutal it will be. Our current timeline is not going in a nice direction.

As I said its not exactly anger. More like a feeling of urgency?
