FWIW I think the song’s noteworthy as a cover because Christina Aguilera’s song was widely interpreted as empowering LGBT+ perceptions of beauty and self-worth (an attitude that back in 2002 was not as mainstream as it is today), and ICP are all about empowering impoverished working-class people who are scorned by the mainstream. A lot of ICP’s songs don’t resonate with me, but this one does. I especially like Violent J’s delivery, and the dancing clown is pretty fun. Especially poignant: the neighborhood shown in the video is being destroyed to make way for an international bridge.
Oh… I like that grating quality, it seems honest, like an average guy who’s doing his best and isn’t ashamed of it. I though it added to the theme of the song. But I guess i can see how it wouldn’t work for others.
Jfc, that was horrible
I’m sorry you feel that way, fam.

Here’s Aguilera’s original, I hope it helps you get over ICP’s version.
Oh, I love the song itself. And I’m not an ICP hater. I’m not a fan of most of their music overall, but I dig their openness.
It was the vocals that killed it for me. It was just grating, and that’s coming from a death metal fan lol
