I have not read the whole bill but I wonder about places like hamburger Mary’s which does give a family friendly drag show.

I can’t believe the person showed up looking like a Navi from avatar. Missouri is a socially conservative state outside the large cities. They also expect people to act with respect. Showing dressed up like is going to make sure the bill is passed.

the law should not be applied by how people look. If they treat the law like that, it will get repealed. So actually in the long term it might be better to psychologically push them into making a mistake.

They showed up in their finest work attire, which took, likely, 3 or more hours to put on.

        You know nothing of respect.

No you should never show up looking like a clown for government functions, acting like one is standard practice for republicans though.

If you are trying to change minds, be respectful and dress for success. Showing up dressed like that, just makes the average rural person say, yep, we need this law. Missouri also made strippers wear bikinis. I was born in Missouri and while I don’t go there often, I have seen a shift further to the right on social issues. I am less socially conservative.

I don’t really think it would make a bit of difference if they showed up in the finest suit and tie ever made. You can’t sweet talk a bigot by dressing nice and presenting a logical case against their illogical beliefs. FWIW I’m not saying all republicans are bigots or anything, but the ones behind this bill definitely are. I grew up in an extremely rural area and have been around these types of people all my life, hell there are several of them in my family unfortunately. Most of them need no other motivation than “gays make me feel yucky” to start calling for bans and worse. From my perspective, it wouldn’t matter if Jesus himself showed up in a gleaming suit of gold and testified against this bill. It wouldn’t change the minds of the people trying to pass it.

                Edit: spelling

To be clear, they’re not trying to sway the politicians but the voters. When you show up looking like what they’d expect, the voters will back the bill. I have mixed feelings about the bill. Places like hamburger Mary’s are tame and family friendly. Most other shows are not. I haven’t read through all the bill but it seems to focus on nudity and or adult content. Children don’t need to see overly sexual things. I need to finish reading it to have solid opinion.

If you want to understand Missouri better. Go look at the laws around strip clubs. Wtf. Based on those laws. This isn’t an attack on gay people. This is just business as usual

The average rural voter was already voting to ban drag.

The fence sitters seeing a drag performer being humanized is good enough for me.
