No. Governor appointment time. A special election right now would just be a waste of money. If this was a Democrat, there wouldn’t even be a suggestion of a special election.
What does that even mean?
What does their state Constitution say on the matter? If that’s ambiguous, what about their state laws?
If these prescribe a situation (which I’m pretty sure they do), that’s what must be done. If that doesn’t make sense, then the above need to be changed.
Especially in these inflammatory times, it’s important to maintain and follow the rule of law. This is true of both/all sides, and exceptions are problematic.
