On Jan. 1, California will become the first state to offer health insurance to all undocumented adults by expanding access to the state-run insurance plan, Medi-Cal.
In 2015, undocumented children were able to join Medi-Cal under a bill signed by then-Gov. Jerry Brown. In 2019, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law an expansion of full-scope Medi-Cal access for young adults ages 19 through 25, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. Access was then further expanded to allow older adults aged 50 and older to receive full benefits, also regardless of immigration status.
Are you even from California? Medi-Cal serves all low income Californians, and has been extended to include all 19-25 year olds and those 50+ regardless of income levels.
Unfortunately, there are limits because single payer healthcare and universal healthcare are tantamount to the destruction of America according to conservatives. Passing universal healthcare, even in California, is a tough sell.
This is what civilization looks like.
What about the citizens?
They are already eligible.
