and probably the Metaverse after that

Thankfully we can say that will never be ruined, because it won’t fucking exist.

Meta/Facebook won’t exist in the future, but the concept of a shared blended mixed reality where the Internet bleeds into real life is already here.

I mean hell - you participate in that crazy hallucinogenic experience any time you hail a ride with Uber, order some food, or take a video for TikTok.

I’m far ahead personally, because I’m in a niche community (furries) and we’ve having full blown sex on the Internet, using something akin to lucid dreaming, connecting our brains together.

So yeah. Sex and money. They’re what’s popular.

‘The metaverse is when Uber’ is exactly why it’s never going to happen. People have stomped all meaning from the concept by making up private definitions and slopping them around at random nonsense. The other day someone tried arguing that a friggin’ minigolf game was “a metaverse.”

If there’s more than one, there’s zero.

I have a 2004 Second Life account. I am thoroughly familiar with the hype, and the weirdly consistent technical influence of furries. But it’s never going to be more than hand-wavy excuses, because the core concept is literally a joke, and all the people pursuing it regardless are actively undermining generalization and interoperability. Zuck is only the biggest and dumbest example. That broken robot is so scared of people fucking that they don’t exist from the waist down.

Hell yeah, this was a great comment. Well said, sir. 😎

I agree these custom definitions are going to ensure that the word/term at the very least dies, and your point on Zuckerberg trying to force it is also valid.
