Whoopsies! “Free speech absolutist” “accidentally” suspends the accounts of journalists who are critical of him, and people whose political views he disagrees with.

He seems to have quite the habit of firing or banning people he disagrees with, doesn’t he?

Via Gizmodo:

"X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, purged an unknown number of prominent accounts over the last 24 hours with little to no explanation, and then restored the accounts minutes after this article was published.

"The list includes popular accounts belonging to journalists, writers, and podcasters. Among them are Ken Klippenstein of the Intercept, writer and podcaster Rob Rousseau, Texas Observer correspondent Steven Monacelli, the account for TrueAnon, a left-wing politics and news podcast, and a number of others.

"One thing the accounts have in common is recent criticisms of the Israeli government.

"Musk, who calls himself a “free speech absolutist” has previously said no one should be banned from X unless they break the law.

“Update, 1:12 p.m.: Shortly after this article was published, Musk responded to a question about the issue from far-right influencer Jackson Hinkle. Musk promised to investigate, and the accounts went back up soon after. Musk later blamed the “mistake” on X’s spam algorithms. The Hamas account is still suspended.”

@dannym Including me. Depending on how “free speech” is defined. The statement “I think the moon is made of bread dough” is ok. “The moon is made of bread dough” is not ok.

At least the ones who are vocal about it, mostly because they are pushing back against someone who doesn’t agree with them.

There are those of us who are actually consistent on the issue, but unfortunately that isn’t really represented in government…

This idiot thrives off of any and all media attention. Stop talking about him. It helps him more than hinders.

I’m tired of Musk stuff too, but the community rules does seems to allow it to certain degree:

5: personal rants of Big Tech CEOs like Elon Musk are unwelcome (does not include posts about their companies affecting wide range of people)

The community rules need to change.

A shitty tech owner being a shitty person isn’t newsworthy in the first place.

But this community is just as bad as /r/technology about being a Musk news feed.

being generous, this is post about whether the personal vissitudes of a CEO or a recalcitrant spam detector are to blame - the latter is technology the former is relevant if it’s being blamed on the latter.

How about option 3: Musk’s success relies heavily on remaining visible in the media, so he does and says stupid shit to keep us talking about him and his companies. And we’re being absolute morons and doing exactly what he wants.

No, Musk is an annoying slime ball with a ton of money thanks to mommy and daddy. But thanks to good PR in the past there are a lot of people that worship the ground he walks on, so we need to keep his stupidity visible in the media so that number doesn’t grow.

But since he owns a technology company, literally anything he says and does it’s related to technology!

All posts like this are doing is giving the baby the attention he craves.
