      I think you indirectly are right: Pop science News articles that have “reality” in the headline about topics like string theory tend to have “artistic impressions” with random CG art just like this, and I bet that’s what the AI based this on.

      But the more direct answer is no, that’s not how Calabi–Yau manifolds themselves are generally illustrated.
